Charles Francis Potter (October 28, 1885 - October 4, 1962) "was a Unitarian minister, theologian and author who changed, over half a century, from an evangelical Baptist to a radical Humanist. Such a transformation reflects remarkable openness to new ideas, flexibility of personality, and capacity for intellectual and theological growth. As an innovative and energetic Unitarian and Humanist, he significantly impacted both traditions."There is much in the Bible against which every instinct of my being rebels, so much so that I regret the necessity which has compelled me to read through it from beginning to end. I do not think that the knowledge I have gained of its history and sources compensates me for the unpleasant details it has forced upon my attention.

"Keller was on the advisory board of Charles Francis Potter's First Humanist Society of New York. Potter, who knew her and conversed with her, considered her a freethinker," p. 612. The advisory board also included Harry Elmer Barnes, L. M. Birkhead, E. A. Burtt, John Dewey, John H. Dietrich, Will Durant, William Floyd, Edwin Franko Goldman, James H. Leuba, Robert Morss Lovett, George E. O’Dell, John Herman Randall Jr., Oliver L.
