Sentenced to Hang
Saddam Hussein was found guilty of crimes against humanity on Sunday, November 5, 2006, and sentenced to hang by the U.S.-sponsored court that has been trying him in Baghdad for the past year.

Saddam verdict, hailed by foes, upsets some Arabs

by Alistair Lyon

November 5, 2006

BEIRUT (Reuters) - "Saddam Hussein's death sentence on Sunday evoked satisfaction in countries he invaded, sorrow among his Palestinian admirers and resentment from some Arabs who see him as the victim of a U.S.-inspired show trial."

Justice or Retribution?

With Saddam’s death the nightmare will continue … and worsen, "The bringing to justice of a hated tyrant should always be welcomed, but a death sentence here, while supposedly indicative of Iraq’s returned sovereignty, will do little other than create a martyr whose death inevitably will lead to a heightened sense of vengeance among his followers."

Justice and retribution would be a life sentence for Hussein.

It´s incredible! I knew that in USA had the death penalty, but it´s most terrible when you see it writen, and when you see that it´s with a lot of countries that USA critices because they break the human rights...

Hey, thanks, I'm encouraged.

Yes, unfortunately the USA is among other barbaric countries on the death penalty. Hussein challenges where I stand on it but I'll hold firm until I hear a rational argument for its continuance.

Your English is coming along nicely.

“God’s signs,” George W. Bush declared, “are not always the ones we look for. We learn in tragedy that his purposes are not always our own...Neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth can separate us from God’s love. May he bless the souls of the departed, may he comfort our own, and may he always guide our country.”
That was said on September 14, 2001, three days after the World Trade Center horror. Reverend Bush's sermon made me feel even worse.

I absolutely believe what Ellie [Contact] believes--that there is no direct evidence, so how could you ask me to believe in God when there's absolutely no evidence that I can see?

~ Jodie Foster

I don't believe in Heaven and Hell," he says. "I don't know if I believe in God. All I know is that as an individual, I won't allow this life--the only thing I know to exist--to be wasted.

~ George Clooney
