The "Godless" ~ Self-professed
Bush in a Fog ~ No Clue
That was said on September 14, 2001, three days after the World Trade Center horror. Reverend Bush's sermon made me feel even worse.
I absolutely believe what Ellie [Contact] believes--that there is no direct evidence, so how could you ask me to believe in God when there's absolutely no evidence that I can see?

I don't believe in Heaven and Hell," he says. "I don't know if I believe in God. All I know is that as an individual, I won't allow this life--the only thing I know to exist--to be wasted.

Rather than showing that the Bush administration "didn't care", I think that that this news clip, which is very enlightening, shows that the Bush administration went into Iraq anyway --knowing full well the consequences. This is not the same thing as "not caring".
A couple of years ago, I heard Condi Rice make the argument that Iraq was merely a technique of distraction -- instead of suicide bombers coming to America, Iraq is a place close enough that they could easily reach it. The war in Iraq, if I understood her correctly, is merely a reason for the suicide bombers to go there instead of here.
Morality is a luxury. If your children are being murdered, you do not have the luxury of behaving morally. While un-appetizing, causing the murderers to attack someone else's children may be the only choice of action available to defend your own children.
We would like to have our friends stand up and help us defend our selves, but what if they don't? Sometimes we get backed into a corner and are forced to take less than honorable actions to defend ourselves.
The Bush administration has clearly screwed up the Iraq war, but that doesn't mean that their reason for entering it was not compelling. Most of America's friends around the world had no intention of helping us. The British clearly would have, but even the Australians had no intention of doing anything -- not until their own countryman were attacked in Bali -- and even after they haven't done much.
Alternatively, we could have nuked the entire middle east into a radioactive pool of trinitite glass.
As despicable as it has become, the Iraq war has in fact worked to prevent terrorists attacks in the America. And we have not had to kill millions of people to accomplish it -- only hundreds of thousands (peace be upon them)
Lets hope that our gample keeps working because the unfortunately people in Iraq will continue to pay for our choice even if it doesn't.
Hi Lowell,
Good points. I don't think, however, that because we're fighting them there they won't come to America. The last I heard, Al-Qaeda is making plans to target 10 million of us. Scarey.
You are probably right -- since Bush has given them enough time to regroup, they may well be close to having the resources to attack us again.
I just watched an old comedy program by Bill Maher. He pointed out that all the predictions by the Bush administration have proven horribly wrong. He made the following quip: Give it up Nostradamus and have over the magic eight ball.
Given the poor tactics they have demonstrated in both Iraq and Afghanistan, Maher's probably right.
