Faith in Earth's stewardship ties religions to environmentalism
and Michael Duck Of The Morning CallApril 20, 2008
Recycle ~ "That's the message faith communities of all stripes across the Lehigh Valley will hear today and throughout the week, which will be marked by Earth Day on Tuesday.
"Environmentalists and many church leaders -- usually on opposite ends of the political spectrum -- have traditionally held each other at arms' length. But now they have a common rallying point, as religious groups preach the gospel of global warming and embrace ideas like ''eco-justice.''
''It's a shame that we haven't been there before as people of faith,'' said Rev. Janel Rice of Bethlehem's Central Moravian Church. ''It's an issue that can unite us all.''
''God asks us to care for all living beings and to care for each other,'' she said. ''He gives us the Earth, and it seems very, very vast, but he also gives us the responsibility to care for that.''
*Translation: this article calls pollution a "sin." It takes God to motivate and unite people to do something about that same sinful pollution. Well, good. I hope it lasts. And now we know that although polluting is a sin, it is also a good thing. ~ BlogHer
